ABOUT ME
I am a highly-qualified Arizona State certified teacher in secondary mathematics who cares deeply about students. I have a bachelor's degree in atmospheric science from the University of Arizona and a master's degree in creative writing from Arizona State University. I taught physical science in the public schools for three years, and have been tutoring all levels of math and science for the last 20+ years. I always enjoy learning new things and helping students succeed!
WHAT I DO
I tutor students in a variety of subjects including all levels of math, science, and languages. I help students in traditional high school classes as well as online courses. All tutoring is done online and in private one-on-one appointments. A meeting link will be sent in an email or text reminder the day of your student's appointment.
My goal is to help students become more independent and confident in school. To achieve this, I demonstrate various ways of approaching problems and offer advice on how to organize complex information, approach unfamiliar concepts, and get the most out of classroom resources. Working witth students one-on-one gives me the opportunity to observe them as they work through problems. This approach allows me to catch mistakes as they happen, even when students don't know to ask a question.
Many times when I offer a simple but important clarification, I hear students say, "Wow, I've always been doing it this way," A lightbulb goes on, and suddenly what once seemed confusing becomes clear. If I observe any significant gaps in knowledge or skills, I will offer reinforcement and extra practice exercises from my own books and materials. This targeted practice helps students "unlearn" bad habits and regain their confidence. Often it only takes one or two appointments to make a difference. Many students experience an immediate sense of stress-relief even after only one session. With regular attendance, you can expect to see a marked increase in student confidence, and an improvement in grades will follow.
